Govt must stop enriching only cronies: DA.

The heritage we leave our children should be one of economic inclusion, and not the legacy of exclusion that South Africa came from.

This was Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane's message which he delivered outside the old Johannesburg Stock exchange Sunday morning.

He says the country needs a new system, as the government is only enriching cronies and connected individuals, not the masses.

"When you look at the current framework of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE), they have said to themselves that they must focus on a few politically-connected individuals. So a list is provided to say this person can get this tender. But that's not the BEE we need. The heritage we must hand over forward is that we want black South Africans to be included in the economy. What we are perpetuating at the moment is the benefit of the elite rather than poor South Africans."
