Entrepreneurs: Suits you, madam... how to bring stylish work outfits to the high-flyers of London.

Polly McMaster has gone from advising businesses to investing in them, and eventually setting up and running her own — a stylish clothing brand for high-flying women.

"It was a big financial decision not to go back to work, not to be earning," says the former finance executive, who was doing an MBA in entrepreneurship sponsored by her employer Apax at the time. "Does my husband back me? Do I back myself to do this?" It was 2011. She left her stable job in the City and used her savings to set up The Fold with Cheryl Mainland, a friend she had bonded with at the London Business School (but who moved to America shortly after and eventually sold out). Disenchanted with the lack of professional, yet stylish and good-quality, work outfits, they set about selling their own. "You could buy a half thought through suit, which felt frumpy. It's not helpful when you're trying to build confidence in your career," says the 37-year-old.
