Millions of working families in Britain are struggling to make ends meet, two major studies have revealed.
More than one in four households say they are worried about their financial situation and often find themselves in some distress over paying the bills.
Many more are regularly having to cut back on food or heating, while going to family or friends for a bailout to meet financial commitments.
The two reports – one from consumer champion Which? and the other from financial services provider Momentum UK – paint a bleak and worrying picture of the challenges families up and down the country are facing.
Which? learned 28% of all UK households said they were experiencing some form of financial distress, be it relying more on overdrafts and loans or struggling to pay bills.
When Which? looked at working households that feel negatively about their financial situation, this rose to six in 10 (61%).
