FTSE 100 and European stocks open lower ahead of key vote on US debt bill

of the US debt vote and digesting the

The FTSE 100 and European stocks opened in the red on Wednesday as investors anticipate the outcome of a key vote later on a US debt-ceiling deal – and digest the latest economic data from China, where manufacturing activity declined for a second straight month and at a faster rate than expected.

The FTSE 100 (^FTSE) fell 0.65% to open at 7,472.86 points, while the CAC 40 (^FCHI) in Paris lost 0.86% to 7,147.74 points. In Germany, the DAX (^GDAXI) fell 0.72% to 15,797.60 points.
