Trump tariffs risk ‘pushing up UK borrowing costs’

Donald Trump’s tariff war risks pushing up the cost of UK government borrowing, Schroders has warned.

The FTSE 100 asset manager said the US president’s trade policies and tax-cutting plans would “cause debt dynamics to worsen” around the world, in a further blow for Rachel Reeves as she struggles to fill a black hole in the public finances.

The interest bill on Britain’s national debt risks being dragged higher because of “US influence over the global economy and financial system”, Schroders said.
